Sumber daya manusia MICE harus memiliki modal dasar agar berdaya saing. SDM berkualitas akan ikut menentukan masa depan industri MICE.

MICE mungkin masih terdengar asing bagi sebagian orang. Sebagian lagi mengira MICE sebatas event organizer atau special event seperti resepsi pernikahan, konser, dan semacamnya. Padahal industri MICE lebih luas dari itu, dan dampak ekonominya lebih besar dari yang dibayangkan.

Karenanya, untuk menjadi pelaku industri MICE setidaknya ada beberapa modal dasar yang diperlukan.

Pertama, pendidikan MICE. Saat ini sudah banyak perguruan tinggi yang menawarkan program studi MICE dengan jenjang D3, D4, sampai S1. Mengenyam pendidikan MICE walau bukan segalanya, tapi membuat seseorang mempunyai nilai lebih sebagai pelaku MICE.

Lulusan MICE setidaknya sudah punya bekal manajemen organisasi, dasar penyelenggaraan MICE, pengetahuan pariwisata, sampai negosiasi. Selain itu, pengalaman praktik kerja di bidang MICE membuat lulusan MICE siap kerja.

Kedua, tersertifikasi kompetensi MICE. Sebenarnya profesi lain juga didorong untuk melakukan sertifikasi profesi. Khusus MICE, Anda bisa mengikuti sertifikasi profesi dari Lembaga Sertifikasi Profesi (LSP) MICE.

Sertifikasi MICE memiliki beberapa kualifikasi; sertifikasi meeting planner, conference manager, conference professional, dan juga master management of conference.

Ketiga, paham e-procurement. Aktivitas MICE yang diselenggarakan pemerintah menjadi salah satu penggerak industri MICE. Karenanya, Anda perlu memahami proses e-procurement alias pengadaan yang diselenggarakan pemerintah. Anda bisa merekrut karyawan atau melatihnya agar paham dasar procurement dan bidding.

Keempat, menguasai bahasa asing. Kemampuan ini penting ketika Anda membuat proposal atau melakukan presentasi apalagi jika yang diikuti bidding internasional.

Kelima, memiliki relasi luas dengan stakeholder MICE. Seperti pemerintahan, asosiasi, organisasi profesi, suplier, dan vendor event lainnya.

Industri MICE sebagaimana khitahnya ialah industri yang mengandalkan interaksi antar manusia, sehingga sumber daya manusia memegang peran penting. Pelaku industri MICE intinya harus luwes dan cepat beradaptasi dengan segala situasi.

MICE human resources need assets to survive in competitions. High-quality human resources will determine the future of the MICE industry.

Many are probably not familiar with MICE yet, while others still assume MICE is only restricted to event organizers or special events such as wedding receptions, concerts, etc. However, MICE has so much more scope, and it also contributes more to our economy than we thought.

Therefore, one must acquire the following assets to become a MICE industry player.

First, MICE education. Nowadays, there are already numerous higher education institutions that provide MICE study programs, from diploma up to a bachelor’s degree. Taking a formal MICE education, although doesn’t guarantee anything, can serve as an added value.

MICE graduates must at least have organizational management skills, basic knowledge of MICE organization, tourism, and negotiation skills. In addition, work experience in MICE renders the graduates work-ready for the industry.

Second, MICE competence certificate. Actually, other professions are also encouraged to take the certification program. But for MICE specifically, you can do the professional certification program under MICE Professional Certification Institute.

The MICE certificate has the following qualifications: meeting planner, conference manager, professional conference, and master management of conference certificates.

Third, understanding of e-procurement. MICE activities held by the government have become the main contributors to the industry. Therefore, you must be aware of the e-procurement process, i.e. the procurement process conducted by the government. You can recruit an employee or train them on basic procurement and bidding.

Fourth, mastery of foreign languages. This competence is important when you make a proposal or do a presentation especially at an international bidding event.

Fifth, a broad network among MICE stakeholders, such as the government, associations, professional organizations, suppliers, and other event vendors.

The MICE industry essentially relies heavily on human interaction; therefore, its human resources hold a critical role. Basically, MICE industry players have to be flexible and adaptable to various situations.
